The programme has given me the confidence to own my teaching style, and to recognise that we all have different approaches.

Head, Person, Face

Tell us a little bit about yourself

My name is Rizwan Ali, and I have more than 20 years of experience in marketing, communications, digital transformation, and customer engagement across Pakistan and the Middle East. Over the years, I have worked with leading brands in both media agency and client-side roles – helping organisations adapt to changing consumer behaviour, new technologies, and digital disruption. While this gave me a strong practical foundation, I felt that formal academic recognition would further strengthen my experience, which led me to pursue the Digital Marketing MSc at the University of Liverpool Online.

Why did you choose to study the programme?

I chose this programme because it aligned with my professional background and offered the opportunity to deepen my academic understanding of digital marketing. The University of Liverpool Online stood out to me for several reasons: the relevance of the programme, the flexibility of online study, and the University’s strong global reputation and triple accreditation. It felt like the right balance of credibility, convenience, and academic quality.

What did you enjoy the most about the programme?

I enjoyed how easy it was to relate the learning to my day-to-day work. I was not just studying theory for the sake of it; I could see where it fit in real business situations. I also found the structure of the course very helpful, because each module added something new without feeling disconnected from the last. Another aspect I genuinely valued was working with classmates from different industries and countries. That exchange of ideas made the experience more engaging and gave me a wider view of how digital marketing is approached in different markets.

What advice would you give to prospective students thinking of studying management online?

For anyone considering online study, it helps to be clear from the start about why you are doing it. The flexibility is definitely useful, especially when you are managing work and other responsibilities. In my case, linking the coursework to situations I had already faced professionally made the learning much more practical. I would also say that returning to study after a gap should not be seen as a disadvantage; in many ways, it allows you to appreciate the experience more.

What are your plans for the future?

In the future, I hope to keep using what I have learned in ways that strengthen both my work and my perspective as a marketing professional. The programme has reinforced my interest in how marketing is changing through technology, data, and strategy, and I want to stay close to that evolution. At the same time, I would like to pass some of that learning on, whether through mentoring, collaboration, or simply supporting younger professionals as they build their own careers.
