Tips on how to balance work and online study

Studying online offers many advantages such as flexibility and convenience. As an online student, it is essential to take personal responsibility for managing your schedule, as you will be in control of your own time. In this blog post, we share practical tips to help you successfully balance work commitments with your online studies.

Connect with peers

Studying online does not have to be a solitary experience. Throughout your programme, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with likeminded peers through group work, discussions, and projects. These connections can be a valuable source of support and allow you to reach out for help with an assignment, or to form a study group.

Take advantage of Study Skills support

Many students use the Pomodoro technique to help them manage their time effectively. This involves breaking down work into 25-minute intervals, followed by short breaks. However, if you still require any guidance during your studies, the Study Skills team is always available to help. They can assist on assignment planning, referencing techniques, navigating the e-Library effectively, and more.

Gain academic support from subject specialists

Academic support is provided by our lecturers who are experts in their respective fields. Whether you require assistance or guidance, they are approachable and committed to helping you build confidence in your subject area. The lecturers also have dedicated office hours and are easily contacted through the virtual learning environment.

Study when it suits you

Our innovative virtual learning environment (VLE) is accessible 24/7 – giving you the flexibility to study when it suits you from anywhere in the world. This makes it easier for you to plan your schedules and benefit from online learning without having to take a break from your career.

Studying online with the University of Liverpool gave me the opportunity to balance my studies around a full-time job and family life. The added benefit was that I could progress through the programme quickly.
