Spotlight on our online MSc Digital Marketing programme

Forging a successful career path in digital marketing often requires a strong academic understanding and an ongoing awareness of the latest trends in marketing. In this blog post, Chloe Spence – Director of Studies, MSc Digital Marketing (Online) at the University of Liverpool – explains how the online MSc Digital Marketing programme can help to enhance your career.

Who is the online MSc Digital Marketing best suited to?

The online Digital Marketing MSc has been designed to suit people with a range of different backgrounds and aspirations. While this is ideal for graduates from business and management disciplines hoping to specialise in digital marketing, it is also open to those with entirely unrelated undergraduate degrees. Additionally, there is an alternative route for students with practical experience but no prior qualification. We assess each application individually and will sometimes have meetings with potential candidates to assess their capabilities.

Which elements of digital marketing are covered on the programme?

The MSc programme provides a broad, analytical, and integrated study of digital marketing and management-related issues. This covers key aspects of the digital marketing environment and how each of these influences the marketing strategy. Modules include a combination of essential digital marketing content and theory (such as digital communications and social media marketing) as well as core business skills tailored to the needs of marketing practice (for example, leadership and ethical and sustainable practice). That way, the programme equips students with the specialist skills and knowledge needed to be effective digital marketing managers, staying on top of recent developments and emerging trends in theory and practice.

Why choose the University of Liverpool’s triple-accredited Management School?

The University of Liverpool Management School is one of an elite group of schools with gold standard triple accreditation (by AACSB, AMBA, and EQUIS), with a guiding vision of transformative teaching and research placing us at the forefront of knowledge leadership. As well as academic excellence, employability is a central concern that underpins the development of the MSc programme specifically. Industry employers are also being actively involved in programme design and activities/assessments designed to promote engagement with work-based issues. The programme benefits from a comprehensive and holistic approach, ensuring students not only grasp key theoretical concepts but can apply these in practice. Graduates are therefore well-positioned to pursue leadership-level roles, having both the prestige that comes with the MSc qualification and the deep understanding and skills to back this up.

What are the benefits of studying for an online master’s in digital marketing?

We offer a fully online and part-time programme. This provides unparalleled flexibility, allowing students to study according to their own schedule –  beneficial for those with work or personal commitments. Module content is delivered through a range of learning materials, including weekly assigned readings and podcasts. Learning is further developed through a combination of interactive individual activities, collaborative tasks, and discussion boards. As well as facilitating independent learning, the online programme also enables students from all different backgrounds and parts of the world to connect and collaborate. This provides them with opportunities to learn from peers and work together to address practical real-world problems.

What career opportunities are available for digital marketing graduates?

Our objective is to ensure graduates are highly effective and professional digital marketers. This may be advancing within an existing role in marketing, moving into a marketing position, or developing a managerial career. Typically, we wouldn’t expect graduates to be pursuing entry-level roles. Instead, we would be preparing them more for leadership, with the potential to enter senior management positions with salaries above £45,000. So, this is a well-paid career, and for passionate and committed students, the MSc can be a hugely valuable investment in their professional futures and open up a world of opportunities.
