A Master of Business Administration (MBA) is one of the most widely recognised and prestigious postgraduate courses for business. For anyone with serious leadership and management ambitions, it can help you get to where you want in your career and give you the necessary tools to be successful. We’re going to take a look at the MBA course, including who it might be for and where the qualification could take you.
We’re proud to offer our fully online, part-time MBA course at the University of Liverpool Management School, which is part of an elite group of learning institutions in the UK and around the world.
Who is an MBA for?
This is a very important aspect to understand about an MBA, as it’s designed for mid-career professionals who already have a few years of experience in business rather than a course for graduates immediately following their degree.
An MBA is for professionals looking to develop their skills and knowledge to enhance their progression, whether to a more senior position or a change in industry or career path. This generally means the ideal candidate for this postgraduate degree has at least three years’ experience in a business management role, whether that’s managing people, finance, or projects in either the private or public sector.
A previous bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification is ideal but not necessary. If you can demonstrate extensive professional experience in business and managerial roles (at least five years) then you can apply without an undergraduate degree.
What are the educational aims of this course?
The purpose and aim of this course is to provide a comprehensive and high-level management education, and develop specific and transferrable skills for business leadership. These skills will enable students of the course to apply general management principles in all sorts of situations, giving you a toolkit to lead and make business decisions effectively, even when faced with unfamiliar circumstances.
Your professional development will be supported, from industry and subject-specific learning to analytical and informational skills for devising business strategy and tactics.
Personal development is also key, from understanding inter-cultural perspectives to effective collaboration and communication across business and national borders. You’ll also be supported in your understanding of responsible leadership and ethics, with a focus on sustainable development.
Overall, the course aims to advance your personal and professional career based on your particular trajectory and ambitions, giving you the confidence and acumen to succeed in business leadership.
