Could you tell us a bit about yourself?

I work as a lawyer and was called to the bar in 2015. Since then, I have practiced across a diverse range of legal areas. These include corporate and commercial law, arbitration, capital markets, and criminal and civil litigation. I recently moved to the United Kingdom and am in the process of qualifying as a UK solicitor while pursuing a master’s in International Business Law at the University of Liverpool.

Why did you choose the University of Liverpool for your law studies? 

The University of Liverpool LLM International Business Law programme stood out because it equips students with advanced knowledge of international sales, cross-border insolvency restructuring, banking law and intellectual property law. The overall impression, as well as the numerous positive testimonials of some past students, confirmed my impression and conviction of the course and university. 

How did you find studying online with the University of Liverpool?  

Studying online with the University of Liverpool is very flexible, especially with the demands of work and family life. The online course allows me to study at my own pace and the online platform is flexible. It includes all the materials needed to study and is accessible 24/7. Lecturers are always ready to meet the needs of students, while the Student Support team regularly monitors my progress.

What advice would you give to prospective students thinking of studying law online?  

I can recommend the University of Liverpool to prospective students because the programme is well-organised, flexible, and appropriate for students who do not have the capacity to study on campus full-time. 

How have you applied the legal skills you have learned in your professional role?  

I have applied my skills in handling complex legal issues, providing in-depth legal analysis, and proffering solutions to meet clients’ needs. The programme has also assisted me in honing my critical thinking skills around issues and tackling intricate legal challenges. Other areas I’ve applied my skills to are international contracts, cross-border insolvency restructuring, and international commercial arbitration. 

Finally, what are your career aspirations for the future?  

In the future, I aspire to study a PhD in law. I am also interested in international commercial arbitration and hope to lecture at some point in the future.

Tell us a little about yourself

I am a recent graduate of the University of Lincoln Business School, having studied an MSc in Management with Supply Chain. I spent the last 10 years working in the trade, compliance, and logistics sector, which has been an interesting challenge thanks to Brexit. I also have a 10-year-old daughter and spend my weekends watching her play football.  

Why did you choose the University of Liverpool for your law studies?  

The flexibility to complete my studies around work and life, without having to attend in person or commit to set times, was appealing. I found part-time distance learning worked well during my MSc previously and wanted to continue my learning journey in a similar format. The programme modules also matched the areas I was looking to learn more about, as well as the challenges I face in my day job.  

How did you find studying online with the University of Liverpool?  

I am only on my first module, but so far I am very impressed. The module content is very detailed, and the lecturers are contactable and respond quickly. I loved the introductory module, as this gave me the chance to get back into education and understand the expectations of the university, as they differ slightly from my previous studies.  

Do you have a favourite module on the International Business Law programme? 

Not yet as I am in the early stages of my course, but I have enjoyed my first module and am looking forward to the remainder of the course. I am most looking forward to the module regarding EU trade law, as Brexit is changing the environment I work in, and continues to display new and interesting challenges. 

What advice would you give to prospective students thinking of studying law online? 

Studying online is perfect for anyone who is working full-time or has other commitments that restrict them from attending in person. The flexibility is great, isn’t restricted by time zones, and all the materials are provided online and can be accessed at any time. The deadlines are spread out and I particularly like that there is a break between modules to provide time to recharge before the next module begins. Even though the course is not on campus, the same level of support is provided as if the course was held in person. 

Finally, what are your career aspirations for the future?   

Having spent the last 10 years working in logistics and trade compliance, my career aspirations include building on the position I have, and helping other people develop and grow within the trade sector. With new legislation on a global scale being introduced continually, I hope that my LLM will help me to work through new challenges as they arise, whilst progressing up the corporate ladder.
