I live in Duhok city which is located in the Kurdistan region, north of Iraq. I am an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) specialist and full stack developer. I have wide experience providing technical support and developing technology systems in the humanitarian aid sector. I am utilising and developing technology solutions to help the programming staff to leverage technology to provide better assistance for vulnerable people around the globe.

Why did you choose to study your programme?

This programme aims to teach new things in the computer science field and develop my technical skills [to help me] provide better technical support for the agency I work for. Additionally, it will also help me in my current and future careers.

Why did you decide to study online with the University of Liverpool?

Several universities provide online masters but I have decided to study at the University of Liverpool because it is among the best universities in the world. It has high teaching standards which help students learn many aspects of the selected field with high quality. The other reason was not to take a break from my current job because I love it, especially the professional work environment.

What has your experience of the programme been like?

The virtual learning environment (VLE) is very easy to use as it is well-designed and organised. I loved the structure of the VLE because it puts everything in one place and is easy to access. Honestly, in the beginning it was challenging to balance my studies with my current job, but over time I got familiar with the learning style and I was able to control the balance. The interaction was amazing with all the students, especially during the group projects. We could learn from each other and share our experiences.

What has inspired you most during your studies so far?

The most important part of my studies is the current global technology trends that exist in the modules. The learning style is not only about materials but most of it is practical, so after completing each module there are several things that I can apply in my current job or maybe in the future. I’ve already applied my learnings to my work. There were a few obstacles during my studies, but for me they were learning opportunities.

What are you looking forward to most on your programme?

I am looking forward to the upcoming modules to learn new and interesting things to apply in my workplace. I need to learn more about reasoning and intelligent systems, machine learning, and multi-agent systems.

Tell us a little about yourself

I am a Mauritian national currently working as an IT lecturer on a part-time basis. I completed my undergraduate degree via the British Computer Society’s Higher Education Qualifications Professional Graduate Diploma in IT. Previously, I worked as an IT support officer for around two years and as a software developer for six months.

Why did you choose to study your programme?

The main reason behind my decision to pursue the Artificial Intelligence MSc is my intention to resume my career on a full-time basis as a software developer, and eventually specialise in Artificial Intelligence development. AI has not only been a passionate subject for me but an equally interesting one, based on the ever-evolving developments in the field of Artificial Intelligence. The content of the programme fitted with my academic and professional goals.

Why did you decide to study online with the University of Liverpool?

The reason for me being inclined towards online studies is mainly the flexibility it provides in terms of the possibility of studying and working on a full-time basis simultaneously. The various facilities provided for online studies – such as the availability of resources and study materials, e-library, student support and discussion forums, along with a global connection which can lead to alluring job opportunities – rendered my idea of studying at the University of Liverpool a thrilling and enriching one.

What has your experience of the programme been like?

While it may have initially taken some effort to adapt to the expectations of the curriculum, I am of the opinion that the workload of the course is as per the expectations for a part-time programme. The module content has been enriching and interesting. The learning platform is interactive, resourceful and easy to navigate through. Interactions and communications with peers, lecturers and the student support team have been frequent and endowing.

What are you looking forward to most on your programme?

Applying the knowledge obtained from the course content in my professional career is one of the main goals I am anticipating. In addition to this, I look forward to learning about the technicalities of the subject in-depth in the upcoming modules, including the practical implementation of these topics.

Why did you choose to study your programme?

Artificial Intelligence will be underlying many [future] solutions for our clients; thus, we as consultants need to have in-depth knowledge on concepts and architectures to give advice on how to adopt AI in banking, insurance and at their service providers.

itopia also has a strong foothold in data modelling, and data engineering for financial institutions. We are interested in designing, acquiring, managing and provisioning data to maximise value when used in AI-assisted applications.

AI will impact our management consulting practice as well; the programme shall also help to identify emerging opportunites and challenges caused by AI.

Why did you decide to study online with the University of Liverpool?

My business and family situation do not allow me to go abroad or attend a full-time programme.

Liverpool offers an ideal combination of breadth/depth for a management/technology consultant. There is no pure focus on management concepts, nor a narrow focus on ML/DL only, but AI in general; not a pure focus on programming or data science, but practically oriented and technically sound.

What have your first impressions of the programme been like?

There is a good pace [and it has been] a good start with the ‘General Trends in Computer Science’ module. There is an interesting selection of students with varying experience/backgrounds, and I am learning a lot from the cohort as well. There is a good selection of topics; there could be a better choice for a few materials of the reading list. There is a good balance across types of assignments (individual vs group, discussion forum vs. essay writing), strong support from lecturers, and useful feedback on assignments.

The technology is reliable and helpful (online learning portal, MS Teams and all other tools like EndNote etc. for managing references,).

The flexibility within the module was limited: assignments due in one week dependent on other students’ contributions from the week before; this can be challenging to juggle business/family/student commitments.

15-20 hours of study per week seems the right investment, assuming (a) a good foundation and (b) focusing on the ‘must-do’ parts. If someone lacks a programming background, has the ambition to get very high grades, and wants to read/watch all additional materials, then more time may be required.

What are you looking forward to most on your programme?

All modules are equally important for my work, with the exception of robotics.

Looking forward to the dissertation!

Tell us a little about yourself

My name is Gilbert Isber. I have a diversified background in management, strategy, accounting, and technology. I live and work in Dubai as a senior strategy and consultant manager. I developed years of experience in many sectors and industries as a management and strategy consultant.

Why did you choose to study your programme?

As the AI trend is rising, it is a good time to enter this field both as a personal interest and also as a career change. I decided to pursue a master’s degree in AI due to its current and future potential.

Why did you decide to study online with the University of Liverpool?

After a vast amount of research, I found the University of Liverpool online Artificial Intelligence MSc is the best considering the structure and contents of the programme. It is not just about applied AI and it is not just about Academic AI, it is a well-blended formula. The programme structure and contents cover what is needed to develop an innovative AI specialist. In addition, the ability to pursue a master’s degree from a Russell Group university online from my current location is another factor that contributed to my decision.

What have your first impressions of the programme been like?

After completing the first module, I discovered the uniqueness of this programme in terms of diverting students’ thinking to think critically, and the vast amount of discussion fostering innovation. During the discussion forum, the amount of innovative ideas generated by students was so impressive. My initial impression after completing the first module was excellent. It’s just one module and my way of thinking is so different now. The level of interactions, assignments and discussion is very interactive, and structured in a way that I can balance between studies and commitment. Plus, the program also considers the level of change caused by AI as being a disruptive technology, and how to consider change management, ethical, and green computing in the whole process. In addition, the student support is beyond excellent. The online library is also excellent, and the lecturers are always there, hence the support is identical and even better than the on-campus programmes.

What are you looking forward to most on your programme?

To upskill and reskill to a level of being able to innovate, create new ideas to solve problems in any sector and industry, and hence contribute to the advancement of AI applications and leave a positive footprint in this domain. Any AI program has to look at developing AI innovators, as graduates that really can find solutions for current and future problems using AI combining applied, academic and leadership abilities to do a positive change, and help find solutions for all sectors and industries.

Would you like to share anything else which we’ve not asked?

I am already in the process of applying two ideas generated during the discussion forums and assignment preparation. 1 – augmenting pervasive technology with process automation to increase the level of automation within the context of the organisation. 2 – customer’s clustering to develop a better insight of customer’s behaviour.
